In the mean time...

So it’s taking me quite some time to edit my photos from France. I suspect this is because I don’t know a whole lot about editing photos. I’m not a photographer, you see. But my sister and brother-in-law, who are photographers and have a hand in the amazingness that is fotojournal, hooked me up with an account. So off I go!

Rather than leave my page empty while I try to make my France photos look like they weren’t taken with a point-and-shoot (which they most definitely were), I will share with you a bit of exciting news: spring is here! You know how I know this (aside from the obvious pointers, like the fact that the calendar says it’s spring)? I saw fresh fava beans at the grocery store today. 

So I bought myself some, and turned them into dinner. Here are a few shots that I took along the way.

A bowl full of de-shelled fava beans. Well, sort of de-shelled. The beans as you see them above and below are actually covered in a second, sort of waxy, shell. According to the bit of research I did tonight, you can eat the shell if you want, but the consensus seems to be that the beans will be tastier if you go ahead and remove the waxy exterior. You can do this by blanching the beans for a minute or two and then slipping off the shells, or simply by peeling off the shell while the beans are still uncooked. I opted for the latter.

So then I boiled some tasty tagliatelle.
